How to check a second-hand iPhone before buying: a 15-point checklist

Short answer
Check the IMEI, make sure the Apple ID is signed out, test Face ID, cameras, speakers and charging, and look at battery health in Settings.
Start with the account and IMEI
Go to Settings > General > About and compare the IMEI with the box. Then make sure Find My is off.
Test the hardware
Test the screen, Face ID, every camera, both speakers, and the charging port.
Check battery health
Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging. Below 80% means the battery should be replaced soon.
