How to sell your phone in Malaysia for the best price

Last updated 2026-11-07 · 7 min read

Short answer

Get a few online quotes, sell before a new model launches, keep the phone clean and the battery healthy, sign out of your account, and choose a buyer who inspects in front of you and pays on the spot.

1. Know what your phone is worth

Start with a few quotes so you know the real range. Online quotes from trade-in companies are a floor; private buyers on Carousell or Mudah may pay more, but take longer and carry more risk.

For example, RunMobile currently pays up to RM 800 for an iPhone 14 128GB in good condition and up to RM 1,510 for an iPhone 15 Pro 128GB in good condition.

Be honest about the condition when you ask for a quote. A quote based on wrong answers will only be cut at inspection.

2. Sell at the right time

Used iPhone prices drop most when Apple announces new models, usually in September. If you plan to upgrade, selling in July or August normally gets you more than waiting until October.

Demand also rises before Hari Raya and Chinese New Year, when many people buy phones as gifts.

3. Prepare the phone

A clean phone with its box and cable makes a better impression and can add a little to the price. Remove the case and screen protector so the buyer can see the real condition; hiding marks only leads to arguments later.

Check the battery health. Below 80%, most buyers will price the phone as needing a new battery. Replacing it with a genuine battery at an authorised service centre can pay for itself on newer models.

Back up your data, sign out of your Apple ID or Google account, and erase the phone. Our 10-step checklist walks you through it.

4. Choose how to sell

  • Private sale (Carousell, Mudah, Facebook): often the highest price, but you handle messages, no-shows, meet-ups and payment risk yourself.
  • Trade-in at a store or with Apple: quick and safe, but usually lower, and Apple pays in credit for a new device.
  • Online buyers with pickup (such as CompAsia or RunMobile): a fixed process with a quote first, then inspection. Check how and when they pay.

5. Protect yourself when you meet

Never hand over your phone before you have the money in your hand. Cash at the meeting is the simplest way to be sure.

Never share your banking app, TAC codes or Apple ID password with a buyer. A real buyer never needs them.

If the buyer offers less after inspecting the phone, ask them to show you exactly why. At RunMobile you can say no and keep your phone, with no fee.
